The “Sipur” film studio has announced a documentary about the Israeli festival. Yariv Mozer, the director of the documentary, says: “Nothing prepared me for the horrific images. As a documentary filmmaker, I feel it is my duty to bring the testimonies and terrible stories of the survivors of this massacre to the world. The meaning of the words “Universo Paralello” is “Parallel Universe” in Portuguese, the native language of the land of Samba, from which the festival originates.

The word “Supernova” refers to the explosion of a massive star, causing an immense burst of light in galactic terms.

Three to five thousand people attended the festival. The festival was moved to the site north of Re’im on the road to Be’eri two days before it was due to begin, after the original site in southern Israel became unavailable, and the new site was only announced to participants a few hours before the festival was due to begin.

Hamas blocked the road from the north, west and south. Participants could only escape eastwards across open fields. Many were simply shot. At least 260 festival-goers died. Many were wounded and taken hostage.

At the ‘Joy of Torah’ festival, people celebrated diversity and alternative lifestyles with psy-trance music in front of the Buddha statue.
