Divine power in the name of Jesus

The healing of the severely disabled man at the Beautiful Gate in Jerusalem (Acts 3:1-26) is a public sign that the “divine work through Jesus” did not end with his death on the cross but continues in believers. The same power in which Jesus travelled is at work in the name of Jesus.

When Peter takes the hand of the man paralysed from birth, he suddenly has muscles in his legs, jumps around and praises God. Shortly before this, Jesus had healed a man born blind – also in Jerusalem (John 9). In both cases, the divine creative power becomes effective.

In his second public sermon, Peter explains that this power does not come from themselves, but from faith in the name of the risen Jesus. Prayers in the name of Jesus also have a special power today. It is not simply a matter of pronouncing the name of Jesus, but of asking for his will. Jesus wants to heal people by freeing them to praise God.
